Did you know that thinking about your audience is the death of creativity? I heard that the other day on a podcast I’ve been listing too called Hashtag Authentic by Sara Tasker @me_and_orla, and I almost fell out of my chair. If we are consumed with how we will appear or how our art will be received we kill off our creative energy.
Instagram for me has become a bit of a creative outlet that I tend to have a love/hate relationship with (don’t we all?). It’s a space that I can share our life highlights, our gorgeous trip photos, the fun things we are doing week to week. But at the same time when I start to think about how things will be received they stop being fun.
Well I started challenging myself since we returned from our epic Europe trip (it was truly epic) to take out my camera and capture the ‘imperfect’ moments as well. As a ‘recovering perfectionist and an aspiring good enough-ist’ to quote my ultimate favourite author Brene Brown, my desire is to not only love the perfect moments but also find the true beauty in the everyday in between. Like this, I think I’ll call it ‘James destroys peanut butter toast’.
